Season’s Greetings to All Our Neighbours

We’ve been busy in the run up to Christmas.

Garden Quarter Christmas Lights Switch On

Rain couldn’t dampen our festive spirits when our Belly Dancing Society performed Jingle Bell Rock at the Garden Quarter’s Christmas Lights Switch on.  University Staff and students mingled with Garden Quarter residents and we all enjoyed this start to the festive season.

Solar Panel Community Information Meeting

On 8th December we held an information session for residents of Handbridge on the proposed planning submission to install solar panels at the Chester Business School, Queen’s Park Campus and this was well attended.  Our Head of Sustainability, Alice Elliott, outlined the proposals for the scheme for residents and we asked the attendees to provide some feedback on the session.  Comments from residents included:

‘Very helpful presentation.  A sensitive design’

‘I have no objection to the proposed installation.  Good luck with the Planning Application’.
 Christmas Cakes
This week the University donated this beautiful, homemade Yule Log, made by our Catering Services, to the Garden Quarter Residents and Traders Association Christmas Raffle.

Events Coming Up

On 15th December Chester Business School will be holding Carols at our Queen’s Park Campus at 4pm and residents are invited to join us for carols and mulled wine, mulled apple juice and mince pies. The School are very keen to make this a new Christmas tradition.

Until 17th December the University is holding a free art exhibition, Faces of Culture three approaches to figurative painting, at The University of Chester China Centre, Gateway House, 3rd Floor, the entrance is opposite Renew Theatre, 86 Northgate Street.  Full details can be found on our website at  All are welcome.

On 21st December at Parkgate Road Campus we are holding a Christmas lunch for residents from Here and Now in Blacon.  Some of our international students will be joining our guests to learn more about a British Christmas.  I visited Here and Now and chatted to the members of the group on 3rd December and really enjoyed the opportunity to meet this lovely group and take part in one of their craft activities.

Dates for your Diary

Our term finishes on Friday 18th December 2015 and the new term starts on Monday 11th January 2016 and so we expect a lot of our students will be returning to Chester for the new term during the weekend beginning 9th January 2016.

I would like to thank Gwyn Cooper for displaying our alcohol awareness posters for students on the Cheyney Road Community Noticeboard this month and Ruth Davidson in Queen’s Park for displaying the invitation to our Solar Panel presentation on the Handbridge Community Noticeboard.

Finally, I’d like to wish all our neighbours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
